The family weekend in the ardennes was really comfortable. It was in Trois Points. I am writing this a few days later because I barely had internet on the weekend itself and I was just being with my family. Everybody grows old, it is remarkable how old everyone has gotten, even the smallest kids. Warre changed the most. He is a full on young adult now who goes to parties, does drugs and is suprisingly cool. He is a confident but sensitive young guy. His brother Tjeu is still quite a bit younger but as opposed to a few years ago you can actually talk and laugh with him now which is also really cool. Eppo is 8 now and Linus 6, they have also grown, Linus is an incredibly likeable kid who has a lot of energy and is overall super nice and chill. Eppo is a lot more difficult. He is very sweet but can have bursts of agression and isolates himself a lot, it caused a lot of trouble at one point in the weekend in a way that was a bit painful for everyone. It was the first time I also noticed that our family is in fact quite a hard/sharp enviroment. People poke fun at each other in a pretty merciless way. I also noticed that I thrive in an enviroment like this and it frightens me a little bit. That is really not the kind of person I want to be. Another thing that was remarkable was that I was able to identify with my family for the first time. It is a scary feeling because to me none of them really serve as ‘examples’. I don’t really want to be like them or belong to their ‘group’ that knows best according to themsleves. An example of why: When I asked what their role models were in their youth or now, almost none of them had an answer except ‘nobody’. I have many people I look up to, many ambitions, I don’t want to have ‘nobody’ as a role model. Nonetheless I like my family a lot and really enjoyed the weekend. Saartje and Matthias left on sunday tough, which is sad for saartje because Matthias did not want to stay and barely showed his face.
