We’ve come too far

For the event in this historic squatted villa in Antwerp, it was my initial intention to shoot a homemade rocket out of the small attic window, so high up into the sky that it would dissapear from sight. From the first test onwards the rockets failed every single time. Evidently they were  too unpredictable to shoot from the dry wooden attic. In this house full of strangers, I had played the role of a mad scientist holed up in the attic obsessed with reaching space while the others worried for the safety of the whole affair. throughout the event itself I decided to continue these experiments and embody the dream of flying more than the realisation of it. It was a celebration of this desire that is as old as humanity itself, and through this dream, a celebration of failure.

In the installation you can see printed screenshots from every failed test, with what went wrong written on top of it. The ones made with chalk were the live tests with the remnants from the rockets.

I also presented a floating walkie talkie through which I was singing specific lines from the song ‘get lucky’ by Daft Punk.

This was inspired by an earlier work I exhibited while living in Finland for a month. From far I away I participated in an exhibition. To see it CLICK HERE.
